PRESS RELEASE1st May 2004
A NEW LEASE OF LOVE
Christian introduction agency, friendsfirst, has launched an inspired new membership format to cater for the growing number of people joining its ranks.
“A new structure has been designed to give members a wide choice of options that govern the frequency of new introductions”, explains friendsfirstDirector Katharine Gray.
“This, in turn, enables people to manage their membership in the way that suits them best”, she added. “It’s all about giving our members wider choices and total control.”
The friendsfirst service involves circulating personality profiles across its membership base, based on age criteria and geographic location. Members then contact those people whose details are of interest.
From May 2004, current and new members will be able to choose from five membership options. These will range from two to twelve profile mailings a year. Members will also be offered a bespoke service, handled by the friendsfirst team on their behalf.
“The change is being made in response to the very wide range of people now joining our membership base”, explained Katharine. “Each one of our members is a unique individual who has the right to choose exactly how his or her membership should work.”
friendsfirst was founded in 1999 and is open to unattached Christians across the UK and from all denominations. The membership is made up of men and women of all ages, and from a wide variety of backgrounds and traditions.
“Building meaningful relationships with other people is a natural instinct for most of us,” says Katharine. “For Christians, however, there is also a deep desire that those ‘others’ should be like-minded believers.
“Many people have found that simply leaving things to chance could mean facing a life of loneliness. Our aim is to facilitate a friendship process which we hope will be rewarding for every one of our members.”

Notes for Editors Katharine Gray established friendsfirst in October 1999 to meet the needs of many single Christians across the country who may feel isolated from other single Christians. There is a growing number of single Christians in the UK, who are remaining single for longer because of work commitments and social lives which are not conducive to meeting sufficient Christians of the opposite sex outside of their immediate contemporaries in their own churches.
Name: friendsfirst. The service is called friendsfirst because the philosophy behind it is that friendships are vitally important and are at the heart of any good and meaningful relationship. Friendship should ideally be the foundation for anything else that may develop after a period of time.
Successes To date there have been 15 marriages and 6 engagements between friendsfirst members. These couples span every age group including couples in their 60’s and 70’s. The couples involved come from the following area’s Dudley, Tamworth, Essex, Liverpool, Manchester, Rugby, Wigan, Bolton, Birmingham, Bath, Cambridge, Darlington, Sheffield, Basingstoke, Bedfordshire, Cheltenham, Malvern, Walsall, Solihull, Cornwall, Stamford, Preston, Halesowen, Wolverhampton, Cambridge and Loughton, Essex.
